New clinical career framework for art, music, and drama therapists
We are proud to publish a new clinical career framework for art, music, and drama therapists developed in collaboration with the British Association for Music Therapy and the British Association of Dramatherapists to support an underutilised workforce.
The framework has been co-created by and for art, drama, and music therapists. It is designed to showcase the skills, competencies and attributes of art, drama and music therapy professionals at different stages in their careers.
The aim of the framework
Our aim was to collaboratively develop a clear clinical career framework which supports art, drama, and music therapists and employers in better understanding how skills and knowledge develop across a career within these professions.
In doing so, we hope the framework will enable those working at both pre-registration and post-registration levels to achieve their potential in ways that fit their evolving aspirations and circumstances.
At this stage, the framework looks at clinical levels of practice only. While there are different management and strategic roles arts therapists can work within, these require a different skill set from those included in this framework.
The framework will continue to evolve and will be influenced by changes in
regulation, government policy and the professional standards and codes of practice relating to all three professions.
Highlighting career stories
As part of the project, we’re pleased to launch three films featuring arts therapists sharing their insights and experiences to inspire others as they navigate their careers.
Acknowledgements
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the development of this framework. In particular thank you to the Project Steering Group and the many art, drama and music therapists who reviewed and contributed creative case studies and
films leading to the final document.
