Covering topics such as psychosis, working with children and young people and working alongside neurominority and learning disability communities, our high-quality courses offer training for art therapists working in diverse settings and at different levels.

New CPD series on art therapy with people who experience psychosis

We are pleased to be working with highly experienced art therapist Dr Chris Wood on this new CPD series. Different course levels will be running in 2026 and 2027. Depending on what stage you are already working at, you can progress through all levels in order or join a more advanced course.

High-quality research has found that art therapy can be beneficial for people experiencing psychosis. Introduction to art therapy with people who experience psychosis (Level 1)

📅 Friday 13 February 2026

This one-day introduction course is the first in our new series of CPD on art therapy with people who experience psychosis. We will briefly look at modern representations of psychosis, from brain disorder to stress conditions. We will then focus on introducing service user-informed approaches to working with people who experience psychosis, including acceptance, compassion-focused, stabilisation, and Open Dialogue models.

Developing art therapy practice with people who experience psychosis (Level 2)

📅 Friday 10 – Saturday 11 July 2026

The second course in this CPD series will look at ways art therapists can develop their practice to work effectively with people who experience psychosis. We will look at ways to embed service-user-informed models, research, and guidance effectively within your art therapy practice.

Masterclass in art therapy with people who experience psychosis

📅 Saturday 27 February 2027

This masterclass focuses on advancing effective art therapy practice with people who experience psychosis. Contemporary understanding of psychosis is shaped by service user-informed approaches. This class will provide an opportunity for art therapists to further consider how to use service-user-informed models, research, and guidance effectively.

Masterclass in art therapy with ‘hard to reach’ children & young people

📅 Saturday 28 February 2026

This masterclass, delivered by Jacqui McKoy-Lewens, aims to allow a creative space to safely discuss and explore what is meant by the term ‘hard to reach’ when working with children and young people. We will explore factors that might contribute to this classification and consider ways to encourage engagement in art therapy.

This masterclass is for all art therapists who want to explore and/or re-ignite their creativity. Tutor Jacqui McKoy-Lewens will address potential blocks and barriers that hinder creative potential and look at ways to maintain a regular creative practice that fits around the challenges of daily life.

This masterclass with Dr Sarah Haywood and Nicki Power will offer opportunities to consider and explore how you can shape your art therapy practice to be more welcoming and accessible for people whose ways of being sit outside socially constructed norms of behaviour and emotional expression.
