What will I learn?

Art-based processes in supervision will feature prominently in the curriculum.

An integral part of the programme will be understanding implications of the legal framework as well as organisational dynamics and their impact on supervision.

The training will also focus on enabling you to become a research-aware supervisor and learn how to evaluate the efficacy of your supervisory work.

Scholarships

📅 Scholarship application deadline: 19 April 2026

For the diploma starting in 2027, we will be offering two scholarships of £1,000.

We’d like to encourage suitable applicants from minoritised and marginalised groups, who may have faced barriers to participation in art therapy education or professional development. This includes persons of colour, those who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, disabled persons, and members of neurominority groups.

If you are not sure whether you are a suitable applicant for a scholarship award, please feel free to contact us at hello@baat.org to discuss.

Applicants for the scholarships must:
1. Be a full member of the British Association of Art Therapists (this does not include trainee or associate members).
2. Meet the programme entry requirements.
3. Be a member of an underrepresented group within the art therapy profession compared with the working-age population OR have faced barriers to learning specifically connected to a disability.

To apply, please add a statement of up to 500 words or a 3-4 minute video to your programme application to let us know how the scholarship will help enable you to take part in the diploma. Tell us about:
1. The barriers you have experienced to participating in learning or professional development opportunities.
2. How the scholarship award would help to dismantle or work around those barriers.
3. Specific examples of challenges, from your own experience.

The scholarship applications will be reviewed by a panel including our diplomas programme leaders, professional development manager, and a member of our council. The panel will review each application based on the above criteria.

Scholarship application deadline: 19 April 2026

It has been a wonderful experience to be part of a very nourishing learning environment, in a group which feels supported and supportive of each other. The seminars are rich in information and resource sharing, visiting lectures considered and comprehensive, and the 1-1 supervision tutorials have been invaluable throughout. I have come away with a new professional skill and the knowledge and competency to continue my growth. I would highly recommend the diploma!

_______

I hadn’t seen anyone who resembled, in any shape or form, me – or anyone that had the background I was raised in – within the art therapy supervision community. I’d always had Caucasian females as my clinical and line management supervisors. The international and intercultural mix of the supervision diploma group, as well as the breadth and the skill that I found there, made it a great sharing experience. It’s built another layer in me that I wasn’t expecting!

_______

Because I have dyslexia, I can struggle to retain information and have limited confidence in my writing abilities and communication. I have felt so supported by the tutors and by how the course has been delivered. It is easy to follow, engaging and skilled, with a wonderful international cohort of attendees. It is a warm, inviting space that I look forward to attend every month.
