Artist statement

I am an Irish mixed media artist, a trainee art psychotherapist and a champion for lifelong curiosity about our responses and reactions to our inner world and the world around us.

Working with mixed media invites me to foster connections and relationships between those shapes, forms, textures and materials that normally would not comfortably sit side-by-side. It is through this process that I reflect on those parts of myself that are yet to be understood, and yet to comfortably sit side-by-side.

For me, this largely involves explorations around both the oppressive and empowering roles of gender, sexuality and religion in my life. This is often accompanied with an uncomfortable awareness of the privilege and power I hold to safely reflect on these at all. This specific artwork represents the unique weight that one must carry when standing at an intersection of discrimination and oppression.

As a future art therapist, the work calls for me to carefully and humbly hold and advocate for those parts of myself and those parts of others which do not comfortably sit side-by-side.
