EMDR meets art therapy for children, young people, and adults

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) can be used as a treatment for people who have a diagnosis of PTSD/C-PTSD, depression, OCD, and eating disorders, to name a few. This course introduces practitioners to the potential of EMDR as a useful tool and signposts to training and accreditation.

What is EMDR?

EMDR has the potential to be a non-verbal treatment that uses bilateral stimulation to support the client’s ability to remain in an optimum window of arousal, while simultaneously desensitising and processing distressing material.

What you will learn

The course will give you an insight into how the EMDR treatment method can be used with a variety of client groups and symptomology. It will help you make an informed decision about pursuing an EMDR qualification.

The course covers:

  • Basic principles of EMDR.
  • Ways of adapting EMDR for work with children, young people and adults.
  • How EMDR can complement art therapists’ existing tool kit.
  • Signposting to recognised training and accreditation.

How you will learn

Learning will be through presentations, case studies, videos of EMDR in action, discussion groups, and the opportunity to experience a variety of EMDR resources.
