About art therapy in museums and galleries
The literature on the use of museums and galleries is growing rapidly, suggesting a burgeoning interest in this area of work. There is evidence of a range of benefits from encouraging social inclusion to inspiring reflection. However, it can be hard to know where to start when considering working in this way.
What you will learn
This course presents relevant theory and practice to give you a solid basis to develop your own work with museums and galleries, including working onsite, using loan collections offsite, and using images of museum objects in online therapy.
The course will cover:
- Why use museums and galleries in art therapy? The theoretical basis for working in this way.
- How can we use museums and galleries in art therapy? Examples of different approaches from around the world, including in-depth case studies of the tutor’s own practice and client views.
- What are the practical issues involved in using museums and galleries in art therapy?
On completion of this course you will be able to:
- Explain the theoretical basis for using museums and galleries within art therapy.
- Draw on a range of examples to develop your own approach to using museums and galleries.
- Ensure that your practice in this area is ethical and effective.

Bookings for our online courses close one week before the start date, at 10.00am.
Joining instructions and materials will be available in your Memberzone, under bookings, once bookings have closed. A reminder email will be sent out to delegates one week before the course.
It is the attendees’ responsibility to check they have access to the joining instructions before the course. Contacting the office on the day or evening before the start date will not always be responded to prior to the course starting.
Employer funded bookings are now available to pay by card and are no longer at a higher cost.
When making a booking, your employer will be required to provide their credit/debit card details to complete the payment. Please also tick the employer funded option at checkout.
If your employer wants to pay by invoice, we will now be charging an additional £20 admin fee (this applies per person, per booking).
You will need to complete our Invoice Details Request – Course Booking Form, and return it to us along with a PO number. Please note, we cannot accept the form without a PO number.
