One week foundation in art therapy
This course is for people who are interested in art therapy as a career and want to consider training as an art therapist. It is also useful for other professionals who want to gain a better understanding of art therapy. Throughout the week you will see snapshots of what art therapy looks like in various contexts.
The course will help you develop your understanding of art therapy with different client groups within varying settings. You will take part in art-based learning exercises built into each teaching session to help you learn how art therapy works in different contexts.
No previous formal experience in art making is required, but it is important to be prepared to take part in art-based learning.
You will also have the opportunity to ask experienced art therapists questions about what is involved in training to become an art therapist in the UK.
What you will need
You will need to have some basic art materials to hand to use during the week. A short list will be provided before the course starts.
Most materials can be found in and around the home, any specific materials required will be basic to keep costs for you to a minimum.
What to expect
This course is solely focused on familiarising you with the profession of art therapy and increasing your knowledge about what is involved in training as an art therapist. The course does not teach practical skills.
This course is a learning environment and not therapy. The content of the course can be challenging for some people, and you will need to be mindful of what you disclose during group discussions.
Course programme
A superb course, dipping its toe into theory with plenty of practical art making. Overall, an excellent course, with informed educators and kind moderators.
